Patitha (Sinhala) ⁄ Panuwal (Tamil) - Cultural Journals

Since 2003, Colombo Institute has been publishing two annual refereed journals, Patitha (in Sinhala) and Panuwal (in Tamil) as part of the ongoing Theertha Publication Program. So far, through these journals, Colombo Institute has focussed its attention on improving what might be called the ‘high end’ of local knowledge production in the social sciences and humanities with an emphasis on the politics of culture. The two publications include documentation on socio-cultural interrogation, research based text and theoretical writings by local and international scholars, art and cultural writers. Patitha is published in Sinhala and Panuwal is published in Tamil.

The goal of the journals are to continue publication of qualitative international and local art and cultural writing in local languages in order to increase awareness and deep understanding of cultural production in its specific social and political contexts.
