by theertha_ak last modified 2008-08-14 21:25

It was estimated that nearly 400 schools have been seriously damaged and approximately 4000 children have been displaced due to the calamity caused by the Tsunami wave that swept the Sri Lankan coastal areas on 26th of December 2004. Theertha conducted a program at the Kithulewela Jayamaha Vihara relief camp at Matara to provide attention and care for the displaced children.  Through visitations every week for 4 months and thereafter every month , Theertha members provide them with a play environment by introducing games and engaging in drawing and painting activities with the children.  The program was held for period of one year.  Some of the artworks done by these children were exhibited at the Goethe Institute.

Partial funding for the art workshops were provided by Goethe Insitute, Colombo.
